Hi all, I am a new person to GameEx and the MAME World (about 1 year). I have started to build my own cabinet and Found GameEx (which is awesome btw). I am a registered for life user, and have been running GameEx for a about a week now. Everything is working fine until tonight. I went in to the GameEx Setup Wizard, did ADVANCED, and was checking my settings when I got to GameExtender Settings. A box popped up and says

GameEx Setup Wizard 2.4.8 - By Ben Baker

Configuration system fialed to initialize.

If I hit Continue, the program continues but I cant configure the GameExtender settings. If I jit Quit, the program shuts down. If I hit Details I get the below:

See the end of this message for details on invoking

just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

************** JIT Debugging **************

To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this

application or computer (machine.config) must have the

jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.

The application must also be compiled with debugging

enabled.

For example:

<configuration>

<system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />

</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception

will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer

rather than be handled by this dialog box

Has anyone else ran into this problem before? or know what I have to fix to fix the error? I am running XP SP3, .NETs to 3.5, MAME 1.43u5, GameEx 12.14, 1TB hard drive, 2GB ram, GeForce 8800GTS vid card with v208.19 drivers....if nore info is need please let me know.

Looks like something Is bugging Setup Wizard. Without knowing what was going on under the hood, I'd ask what the last thing you did was before you tried enabling GameExtender.

Just for the sake of curiosity, youre not using a lite xp build right? And also you using Gameextender over a network or for a second monitor? I'm no good at JIT errors, so someone like Headkaze will be of more help.

The last thing I was doing was adding ROMs to the MAME folder, with snaps, manuals, video and such. I was just building my library of ROMS up....testing and verifing they work. I have installed no programs since the machine was built 3 weeks ago with a fresh install of XP. I am runnign XP Professional full verison.

By the way, I just got kicked out of GameEx with another error. I am not sure if they are related, but the log is below.

also I have never enabled GameExtender. I have always had it disabled, just every time I hit that spot in the advanced setup I get the error. If I click continue, I can finish the setup, but then I get wierd stuff like the post before. GameEx crashed, I pasted the log, started GameEx again and it worked fine.....pretty bizzare

I'll say...

Did you try and download the installer from gameex.com and reinstall over to of your existing installation?

Never even seen that error before in my 7+ years of using it.

These are strange errors.

I would try installing GameEx again from a fresh download of the latest version. Also try installing the .NET 2.0 runtimes again.

No i have not installed a fresh copy over the top of my existing GameEx install. I can try that tonight. Do you think I should uninstall all the .net rumtimes (2.0, 3.0, and 3.5) and re-install? I may just even un-install and re-install GameEx completely too, if the runtime re-install doesnt work. of course, the damn IT guy gets the error message nobody has ever see before....LOL!!! lucky me.

I would try installing Gameex over top first, move to .net stuff if that doesn't work. As a last resort I would try uninstalling Gameex. :)

Don't feel bad, I do IT work too and Headkaze is a programmer and you stumped us both too!

I will do that tonight when I get home from work. I will reinstall GameEx, then the .nets, and then remove and re-install Gameex as a last resort. I will post back once i get everything done to let everyone know what happened. Thanks guys for the recommendations. I will keep you informed.

Alright, here we go and this is what I did. I tried to install a new Gameex downloaded copy over the top of the one I had. That didnt work. I un-installed and re-installed all .NETs and that didnt work. I tried to un-install all .NETs and re-install GameEx over the top of the already installed copy and then re-install .NETs, didnt work. I un-installed all .NETs and GameEx (even deleted ALL reg entries for both) and then re-installed .NETs and GameEx....that didnt even work. I was still getting the same error. Alright then, I was thinking screw it, I am going to re-install the OS. Then I was going to install XP and then was thinking, lets see if the Win 7 upgrade would work. So I installed Win 7 on top of XP and BAM!!! everything is working fine again.

The only thing I can think that happened was there was either an update for XP that broke a link somewhere or there was a problem witht he installation of the OS when I first did installed it. Now, I am not a big fan of Win 7. My question is how does GameEx work with Win 7? I will look on the forums and see if there is any problems with GameEx and Win 7.

Posted

I have used it with both Vista x86 and 7 x64 and have had fewer problems OS related to be quite honest.

Posted

Win 7 x64 here and no problems with the OS and emulation except for maybe a few old emulators not working that worked through dos. Something DosBox can fix. So no biggy. Have also seen very few issues that were easily corrected with compatibility mode. I prefer Win 7 and have had great success with it. I use it on both my machines and will be on the 3rd that's being built now.

Sweet....thats great. I am using a copy of Win 7 Professional 32 bit and everything seems to running perfectly. At least I know where to turn if I have probelms again. The forums here are fast and helpful.

Everyone here is awesome!
