[RESOLVED] 11.98 Fontname Pop-ups when starting

Recommended Posts

Posted

I just updated to 11.98 and whenever I start GameEx, it pops-up a ton of windows pop-up warnings displaying some font names. I need to press and hold the enter key so they all go away quickly, if not, it's clickety, clickety hell.

I'm guessing it's a known bug and it's being figured out? Since I haven't seen mention of 11.98 here in the forums yet.

Excellent job to all involved in such a wonderful piece of software.

Wow, that sounds like a bummer! What OS you using? Windows 7?

Posted

Yeah, same for me... autoinstall triggers them all to display their font names after "finalizing install". Need to press [OK] or press enter on each one before GameEx loads.

[EDIT] Windows 7 64bit

Posted

Hmm. That's a new one on me. Can you guys post your logs, or you can't make it to loading?

Posted

It all loads fine after pressing Enter on all of them, and everything works just as it should. Just a minor annoyance whenever you start GameEx.

Posted

Exiting MAME no longer causes GameEx to crash... Displaying of each font name occurs on each time GameEx loads.

Posted

Odd ive updated ... Im running win 7 32 bit no problems.

Posted

I just wanted to have a look at your gameex log and see why it needs the permissions.

Posted

Seems to be specific to W-64 bit versions eh?

.:edit:. Guess not, just read djonek's post again.

Since it is occurring prior to load, the log only shows information post load as far as I can see. Here is my log:

Well.. can't be a 64bit problem cuz as I said above, I'm running Vista 32bit. And yea.. it happens before even loading GameEx, since I have a tool that runs before GameEx to swap primary/secondary displays, and the warnings pop up before that.

Posted

DJoneK has Vista 32-bit. All others except for Ian (he has Win 7 x86) are Win 7 x64. I do not believe it is a rights access issue or a Win 7 x64 issue specifically. Will need to see if any XP users are experiencing the issue or other 32-bit Vista/7 users impacted.

@Drac: does it make an entry in your Windows Error Report console at all?

Posted

I don't think it's an error, because you can bypass it by clicking the OK button in the window for each font. It's not saying "Error Loading Font..Arial" or anything like that. It's just a small, 1 cubic inch window with the font name and an [OK] button.

Posted

It seems like it's a message box in a loop going through all the fonts in code. Maybe was used for testing and was forgotten to be removed for release. Thanks for the report guys. Am sure Tom will fix soon.

Thanks freq! On the ball as usual! ;)

Installed update last night as well and have the same issue. I am running Windows 7 (ultimate) 32 bit.

I was going to uninstall and re install this morning... Glad I checked here first to see if others had the same problem.
