THANKS! Never thought of the mame part i was thinking it was in the gameex setup i screwed up

Group have everthing working in Gammex except i hit something wrong in setup I have a jpac if that matters but when i get a game selected in mame it comes up i can add credits, but when i hit player 1 (D1) key mapped it brings me back to the selection screen of games! If i hit 2 players (D2) key mapped it works perfect. What do i need to change?

Group new to this stuff, but a Diehard gamer from the 80's . Anway just built a mame machine and running gameex and a jpac and mame. Just wanted to know if theres an easier way to map the keys for selecting games, exiting games etc. I can play the games no problem, but trying to explain to my future gamers ( 5yrs old and 10) the multiple button pushed to select and move around gameex/mame is exhausting is there an easier way? Also how does one save there high scores ? I didnt see anything in the setup for it?
