First attempt resulted in failure. Wasn't able to create a mame.exe. This is a lot more trouble than i was expecting, but I will have to get it right to make this build even worth it. Not sure what I did wrong, I followed the instructions to a T. Got to go to bed now. Will be trying again soon.

sweet, let me try this out. going for dual core like in kaze's screen shot.

Hey man, glad to see you! Something about compiling mame makes me anxious. Not ready to take a bite that big into the unknown at the moment. Plus, besides the hi-score issue I have no real reason to have a personal compilation of mame, so I think. Anyhow, I tried taking matters into my own hands and decided to just download mame32v108 against my own will. I was basically trying to avoid upgrading, but whatever. This was the first version on MKCHAMPS page supporting the .diff file. Got it working, I successfully achieved a hi-score in DK, exited, and rebooted to find it on top of the leader board. Yay. It seems as if all it does is a save state automatically, which, if it works, is fine with me. My only gripe now is the fact that upon booting DK i get a not-so-1981 video game message stating the savestate has been loaded successfully. Anyway to get rid of that? Also, upon launching different games it says "unable to load savestate" (because it hasn't created one yet). I'd like to rid that too. Lastly, can you explain to me how this hi-score.diff actually works? Does it create a savestate upon breaking the hi-score, or does it just make a state as you exit the game? Oh yeah, and am I the only one who can't hear jump man's footsteps or the bounce noise when he jumps? Anyhow, the main issue is resolved.

Long time no see guys. Hello especially to Tom, Headkaze, Brian Hoffman, Adultury, and bkenobi! Hope all is well with the old gang. If you want to cut through the banter, my question is down by the astericks *** MAME cab #2 is on the way, and of course I will be using GameEx (which is looking great since the last time I saw it a few years ago) as my front end as I did back in 2006. I know I've resurfaced with aspirations of a mini mame cabinet within the last year, but it is finally manifesting, and it will stand at a dwarfing 43" high. (Just ordered some parts, and am trying to put the finishing touches on this perfectly sized dell dimension 4600c mini i picked up on craigslist). It will be strictly for vertical mame games. I'm going to document the build on BYOAC, so I will post links as I do so. I've posted my problem on the BYOAC forums, and figureded I'd come fishing for that always-loved gameex support I once knew so well. Basically I've got gameex configured how i want it, and I'm ready to start the build. The only thing I'm lacking is hi-score support for Donkey Kong if you want me to be particular. I don't mind if some games aren't hi-score-save compatible, but that happens to be a popular one amongst my friends and I. Here goes: *********** I'm running MAME32 106 as I did back in the day. From my findings, because this build is pre-108, it supports hi-score saves. Unforunately, not for a plethera of games, including Donkey Kong. I've found that sticky at BYOAC linking me to mame0133u3 and its version-specific .diff file, I just don't know how to use a version of mame that doesn't have GUI support. I unzipped the file, and alls that was inside was a CFG directory, and a mame.exe. Upon running mame, it says I need to specify my rom path and to take a look at the cfg file. I did so, and alls that was in there was this a default config file with this script inside: <?xml version="1.0"?> <!-- This file is autogenerated; comments and unknown tags will be stripped --> <mameconfig version="10"> <system name="default" /> </mameconfig> not sure what to do. Basically, let me sum up this page of words up into one sentence: Can someone please help me to have a version of mame that saves hi-scores, especially those achieved in Donkey Kong??? Thanks. Look forward to hearing from you

figured out how to scale the cab down. what i did is decide i want it 4' (48") tall. so i took the neo cab's original height of 75.875" and divided by 48" and got 1.580. So, alls I had to do was take the rest of the dimensions and divide by 1.580 to get my desired scale. Finally we're in motion. I thought of another obstacle in my later future: Is there anyway I can power everything (marquee light, monitor, speakers, ipac, possible coin lights, and fan) from my pc's power supply? I'm trying to avoid a power strip due to the lack of space I'll have, plus i can power everything on with one button. I'll be using dissembled pc speakers, an ipac, and a vga monitor which obviously already plug into the mobo. will wiring the marquee lighting, coin lights, and fan to molex connectors fry my power supply? or is it strong enough? the pc is a stock dell dimension 3000. thanks in advance.

Hmm. I may have to look into this. Scaling down the MK plans from 1:1 to 3:4 is harder than I had envisioned. I found a down scale converter online, but it only lets you enter a digit in the second field. I.E. 1:2, 1:3, 1:4.. etc. Unless one of you know the formula for converting inches to 3/4 scale.

Wow, a ton of great/needed advice. I wasn't aware of flashing bios with custom art, I thought you could only do it with windows. Wow, this will turn out even more authentic than I had imagined. I have a Dell Dimension 3000 for the project. Now about the CP, how would I do this? I'll be able to figure out how to layer the buttons/joysticks and take them out, scale the image down, then re-insert them. Do I just send that vector file to mamemarquees and he prints it?

Hey kaze, nice to see you man. I was thinking bartop myself... the weecade in particular (Weecade) But I think if all goes well, I'll make a few of these 4 foot jobbers. It'd be cool to walk into a spare bedroom turned gameroom and see a miniature arcade. I was going to go the bartop route for extra portability, but I haven't found a design besides the weecade that I like, and frankly the metal work on the weecade can't be accomplished by me. Plus, who wouldn't want to go a few rounds in mortal kombat on a 4' replica?! I like the added decor attributes of the mini arcades. **edit** If you can find me a cool bartop design I'd be interested I suppose. Just put the MK sideart and marquee and cp still.

Brainstorming. So, I've got the plans for the 2 player MK1 machine from trusty 'ol Jackobud. I'm still in the process of scaling the plans down to the 4 foot height. I'll be going out to buy the materials this weekend, and placing an order on Ultimarc or from my pal Tornado Terry shortly thereafter. I'll be using 1/2" MDF vs. that cumbersome 3/8" crap I used for my full-size. A few things I'm brainstorming on... #1 - Is anyone out there vector savvy? I've never personally worked with vector images before, but as I stated in the introduction thread, the control panel will pose a problem once it is scaled down. (The push buttons/joysticks obviously have to remain actual size... so is there a a way to scale down the CP image, but then resize the button template? #2 - I had also opted out of putting side art on my first arcade, but to be a replica, this would be a must. Is there a special paper to get it printed on? Do you sand the outer side walls, primer, paint, then apply the art? Any help would suffice. #3 - To my batch file extraordinaire friends - I think it would be cool for the machine to be shelled obviously, with no windows splash screen, and boot directly into Mortal Kombat upon turning the machine on. Afterwards, if the user doesn't want to play MK, or are ready for a new game, they could then back out of the game and into the GameEx front end. (Is this possible)? I just think booting directly to MK would put the cherry on top in terms of replication. That seems to be it as of now. These are my only concerns going into the project thus far. (Whoever has built an arcade cabinet knows that more problems/troubleshooting are in store unfortunately). Anyhow, I hope I sparked some interest in at least a few of you. I'm wide open to any ideas or recommendations. The only laws of this build are it has to be around 4 feet tall, and as close to a replica as possible. Also, anyone know of anywhere else to gain vector art/arcade plans please do share. Jackobud is the only whereabouts I know of for arcade dimensions, and Vectorlib is the only place I can find vector side/CP/marquee art.

Hey gang, Long time no read. So, anyway, I was just aimlessly browsing the internet last night, and I came across what may be the coolest thing in life pertaining to D.I.Y. arcades. As soon as I saw it, I instantly wanted to get started on one of my own. Yes, I'm speaking of building another arcade cabinet. Not just any arcade cabinet, though. It seems (to my knowledge) only a handful of people have actually done this. The end result is absolutely stunning. Ok, let me stop with the introduction and just get it out already... I'm speaking of constructing miniature replicas of arcade cabinets. Sounds stupid? I beg to differ. I've linked at the bottom of the post to some of the extremely excellent ones. (First link in particular). What it is basically, is an exact replica of any machine you can find the plans for that is anywhere for 3/4 to 1/8 the size of the orginal! (Jakobud is the only one I know of who releases such cabinet specs Jakobud.com). Galaga, and Pacman are the only two I've found online that are what I'm personally trying to do -- Links 1 and 2). Basically you just scale it down with simple math, then build. I'm just now planning out my 4 foot tall Mortal Kombat machine. I've already acquired vector images of the side art, marquee, and control panel. (Only since the buttons will remain normal size, I will have to do some meddling with the CP image to make it work). As you can see in the picture of the baby playing Galaga, it looks as if the baby is a monster, and the game itself is 100% playable. (That one is a bit shorter than 4 feet, but the possibilities are endless). The last link is a video by pocketlucho. One of the craziest. This guy actually uses the 5" PS1 flip screen, and the actual genesis hardware/cartridges to produce what seems to be a 1 foot tall cab. A little too extreme for me, I'll stick with the 4 footers. Anyway, picture the ease of moving, and the lack of room these things will take up! Plus you don't need the stool anymore, any chair will do! Kid friendly too for those of you with little ones. Or if you're friend is a midget! I'm just imagining it now. A generic Neo Geo cab (you know the red and white ones) in the 4 foot tall range stocked with all the neo geo roms.... Maybe a 4 foot tall Golden Tee machine stacked with all the trackball games... A 4 foot galaga cab for all the verticle games... Dragon's Lair replica for the Laserdiscs... Oh man oh man how cool this could be. I figured if anyone would be interested, it would be you all. (Of course all of these cabs would be running on GameEX software!) I'll be sure to document my progress, and count on me to be around for any technical/software related issues I may have forgot over the time that has passed since I completed the Mikeade. Anyone who wants to try and tackle one of these along side of me, shoot me a PM. I'll leave this post as is, and will be starting a new topic called "Mini Mortal Kombat" to start documenting/troubleshooting the task at hand. Wish me luck. sorry for the delayed response, i havn't been on the computer in a day or two. anyway, yes i tried setting up another account, but to my dismay faced the same problem... -blank color as a background with the my documents window. never saw anything like it. i probably was the culprit messing around one night under the influence of alcohol, but can't seem to pin it to a specific action i might have taken. (...or remember taking). anyways, i've decided to undergo my first format and reinstallation of windows since i've been operating under vista. hopefully everything is relatively the same as xp was. i've decided to troubleshoot with the gameex family, even though there is a vista forum, because i've come to know and trust a lot of your software/pc related intelligence. anyway, i'm pretty sure i'm correct in how i'll do this, but i'll offer my plan anyways just to be sure. ...plus one rather stupid question, but what kind of post from katuuuz would it be without at least one?! first I'll boot from the vista cd and follow instructions on how to format my partitions and reinstall vista premium. if in fact i do need to reinstall my device drivers, i'll use the diagnostics cd that came with the pc and says "dvd for reinstalling dell ispiron 531s computer software." ((i've never used on of these cds because by the time i formatted the computer i already lost the discs that accompanied it in the box. luckily i bought this pc like a month ago)). now for the stupid question: will norton be included in this software dvd if it came pre-installed on my pc? ((i wouldn't normally care but i just paid thos S.O.B.'s $50USD for another years subscription today)). thank you to all who feel the need to reply. you've been kind over the time i've been here. (2 years in august!)

when you asked, it was before I used tweakui. anyway, the system restore didn't work when I tried it. I selected the earliest restore point available. now I'm at work so i'll try the new account when I get home. If in fact I do need to reinstall windows, I just pop the vista cd in and go right? I don't have to format do I? I don't want to mess with my drivers if I don't have to.

hello hello. weird issue, not sure how to trouble shoot it. when i log off of my pc, it doesn't go into sleep mode anymore. i click that red power button's drop down menu in the bottom right corner after i log off windows, and choose sleep. the screen goes of like it used to, but then flicks back on. i noticed upon rebooting my explorer.exe doesn't launch and i'm greeted with an open window of "my documents". brian actually helped me the first time by telling me to run task manager and type "explorer.exe" as the command, and sure enough that brings me my windows vista. #1 i don't want to manually launch explorer.exe every time i log on/reboot #2 could this have to do with why my pc won't sleep? (and save power.. the screen should shut off and my blue light on the tower should start blinking and fans should stop/slow) #3 i installed tweakui for vista and another .exe that went hand in hand with it when i was trying to configure my boot sequence. i've since uninstalled both, could that have caused it? i have no viruses or spyware according to norton anti virus (up to date just renewed my subscription today) and spyware doctor. if anyone could help me i'd owe this forum, yet again, my life for helping me through the trenches. game on gameex, game on.

awesome got it back, you're the man bri.
-
i killed explorer.exe but don't know where it it is to relaunch it
-
tried that didn't work.
-
not sure I wasn't messing with the sheller or anything. any ideas how to recover?
-
hey everyone something weird is happening. i boot up my pc, type in my password, and it says welcome, but the windows taskbar, sidebar, nor my desktop ever appear. i'm greeted with an open window of "my documents". i tried a system restore, but that didn't do the trick. i'm stumped as to what this is, or how it happened.
-
man i love you guys, any other forum and i'd still be waiting on my first response hahaha. yes i thought it may be the keyboard too, i know how to get there/use bios/boot sequence, it's just not letting me. my key is F12.. i'm running off a desktop. it's either the keyboard, or could my bios be locked? i saw an article on the web about it but the thread didn't have a soloution. kaze: i don't know if i can hook up the hard drive that needs modding because i don't see a IDE ribbon in the pc. just a molex supplying power to the hard drive, and what i'm guessing is a SATA chord. (blue).
-
yeah it won't work anyways, i needed to hook up/modify a hard drive via IDE. only PCs in my house are SATA.
-
hey guys, how's everyone doing? what kind of post from me would this be if i didn't have a problem? i'm currently running windows vista on a dell inspiron 531s and i cannot access the boot sequence menu. (it says hit F12 on the dell splash screen but doing so still loads up vista). i remember a few people were running vista just hoping you could help a brother out.

anyone have an xbox 360 on xbox live? if so hit me with a pm to trade gamertags.
-
edit.. even if you hit back on the mame games list i would like it to remain on the mame games list... tom if this involves writing a dumbed down beta or something, i'd be willing to pay you. i'd think taking everything but the games list out would be more or less removing code rather than adding it. if it's the only way and you are willing, please email me [email protected] before you put your time into it so we can make sure we're on the same page and i can send you money.
