tthurman replied to GimmeClassics's topic in The Arena
I'm working hard to get a temporary setup in place to participate a bit in this. I'm warning you early, so as not to be surprised by some of my low scores- 135 replies

That one bit me more than once on my laptop before I figured it out. Glad to hear you got things working!

Ideally you need be running a current version of MAME, and as B2K24 already pointed out, that's version 0.154 currently. This is updated every few months or so, so you will want to ensure that whatever MAME version you are running, also matches your romset. i.e. and old set isn't going to run on a current MAME version. I have no idea what version you currently have, but it stands to reason that it is an very old one based on your comments. We strive to be vigilant to the forum rules and guidelines, but some basic googling, should get you headed in the right direction.

It's good to see you back, your absence has been a noticeable one.

That's way to much work to rebuild an old set like that in CMP, IMO, any set manager really, just too many headaches! I would either update to current releases (preferred, especially on modern hardware, say Conroe/dual core era or up), or grab vanilla 0.59 (if you cool dealing with an older set and associated issues with it)

Just curious, with no filtering at all, do they show up? I know I too have read about this 4 player game issue (with some games at least) more than once popping up, and to some degree it seems adding them to favorites may be a more attractive alternative than the automatic filtering, while at the same time a little less maddening than trying to figure out exactly why certain games don't seem to play nice with the filtering feature. Perhaps a even better option is to setup your fav MAME games via Daz's guide to custom MAME lists . I'll be the first to admit I haven't played with all the options available within GameEx, but the nice thing is there are lots of them available regardless. This hobby seems to invoke a lot of creative "out of the box" type thinking and tinkering, and so it stands to reason not everything always works exactly as it seems it would. When there's a will, there's a way though!

Got a wireless steering wheel for MAME/racing games Help plz

All things considered, I found this to be unhelpful info, and so didn't post it early on during this thread. Given some really good input here from the gang here, albeit with fairly limited results, it seems it can't hurt now. I'm always on the hunt for a good controller, and due to this, found this thread of particular interest. After reading some amazon reviews, at least some indicate the pedals didn't work for them reliably from the get go. I have no way of knowing if this is, or is not the case with this particular set you got, but it could be someone else before you experienced the same level of frustration, and off to the garage sale they went due to it. Others describe the dead zone in the steering, which I believe you mentioned earlier on. Sorry, I haven't read back through all of this thread to verify, but at least on the surface It appears that this could have just been one of those controllers that was so close, but missed the mark for MS for one reason or another. Then again, others love it, who knows? Sorry, I know this adds little, if any value. -
I have a HP laptop with an AMD APU, and have found the drivers at AMD website most beneficial when experiencing issues with the GPU. If the motherboard driver listed is current, albeit dated, I would at least consider trying the AMD reference driver. It has bailed me out on more than one occasion. Also a word of caution, when you use the reference driver, you will note windows update pointing you to a driver update, which is actually an older driver, check this to be sure your situation is the same as mine has been, and if so hide that from your update list or ignore it, else you're going to have more problems.

A couple ideas: If you still happen to be running 0.153 you could be seeing the CarnEvil bug, if so check Dazzle's fixed history dat, and give updating another go. Another thing I've noticed here over the last few months is that simply uninstalling and reinstalling GameEx seems, at least for some, to fix problems when you can launch outside the front-end, but not within it. May be something you might want to consider.

FWIW: I've been using vanilla MAME 64 bit for quite a while now, and with the exception of compiling with the latest minigw, it's been problem free. Hopefully that issue will be resolved with the next release. <edit> I should probably point out that it compiles fine with the previous minigw release version without issue

Yeah, that's a deal breaker! Would've been sweet had it worked for that too! <edit> Thanks for the info!

If this works with MAME/Lightguns with the ease and dependability that Stu mentions, this would be a great addition. Please let us know how it goes when you get a chance.

Hope you have a great one! For those unaware, jack's The 3rd Level guy, if you haven't already done so, I'd suggest you check it out !

I almost posted this earlier today, but thought "it can't be that simple". At the risk of looking, mmm, well ya know, what if you just left a wired 360 controller plugged in? I've obviously never tried this, just a thought is all.

Cool stuff stigzler, this should go a long way to help those not so "graphicy" types make some nice tags! I really could have used this 8)

I hear ya! My project is coming along so slowly it's almost discouraging. While I was chatting with Darren the other day about it, i was suddenly inspired by our conversation to get something together as a make shift stand until such time mine is ready. It's certainly not going to be the full blown out custom stand I've concocted, but what I've pieced together is turning out better than I thought it would. I've just used an old work table that I cut down some time ago, and threw the old legs back on the smaller surface. It's a little low, but it works surprisingly well, and for such a simplistic approach it works amazingly well . <Edit> This the bonus room, so I've got plenty of space, hence the pedestal to LCD (Cheater style showcase). I'm just going to sit the computer under it. I'll post an update when I get some more progress made, but it should work pretty well. Granted it's not a thing of beauty or anything, and while she might not look like much, she's got it where it counts. After messing around with this idea, I guess what I'm saying is don't be afraid to venture off on something completely unconventional.

A showcase style cab with no control panel half is going to require a lot of work to get to a useable state. They are so big and bulky, you really need to be standing back from them a few feet, and it would seem attaching any panel to it would be like watching a movie on the front row. Makes me wonder if someone didn't just want the CP portion make a pedestal for a big LCD, which would basically reproduce the same effect. If you're wanting an upright style cab, I'd recommend you pass on these, and keep looking for a more suitable shell.

I'm right in with Filezilla online.gameex.com Basic members can browse the FTP and upload on port 22. User name: your login info Pass: your pass Login Type: Account Hope this helps! <edit> The thread you linked was temporary info before things switched to subscription based. Try as we might, we simply can't recall every post, and there is a good chance that Draco mistakenly thought that was your personal pass. The more your around here the more you'll notice that he makes every attempt to help and maintain order here, he just had a lot of plates spinning when he answered, I'm sure. <edit> updated with info from client area, Thanks Tom!
