    1) As far as i can tell, you can only have one scroller per page, however you can have multiple feeds in each scroller and GE will cycle through them in order.
  2. @ helpman - nice score man! it'll be a few tries before i get that high for sure. Finally beat that snake though! Only had one life left on the next lv though so i got spanked I'm just protecting my second spot at the moment - sorry rtkiii you were getting too close Score: 81,430 Initials: DAZ
  3. Please don't! This game absolutely kills my wrist! I have a feeling we've not seen the last of you on this yet @ GC - thanks for the updates!
  4. I get asked this many times, and even more so these days with MAME, and companies such as Cave bringing these games into our homes. I've always used the term myself - i've been a fan since i was a kid! But with their popularity rising again recently, the term is getting used more often. So what is it? Well it's a shortened term for "Shoot 'Em Up" which in turn is used to describe games whereby the player has to try and survive against many enemies using some form of gun type weapon(s) and the first game credited to this genre is Space Invaders (although arguably it could be Spacewar!) So who is responsible for the term? It's an ongoing debate but the earliest known record is in Issue 3 of Zzap!64 magazine in 1985. From the Editorial: These days "shmup" is used mainly to describle vertical or horizontally scrolling shoot 'em ups, but it is generally accepted that any game that has the player shoot his way through many enemies can be included in the genre. 5. Ugh tell me bout it! I can't play this one for too long in one go - wish there was an autofire Score: 1,097,930 Initials: DAZ
  6. @GC - this is just a hunch and i could be way off the mark but: Have you by any chance put both feeds on them/all pages by accident? If you have more than one feed dedicated to a page it will switch between them as you navigate back and fourth If you are sure you only have the news feed on the Start page, and only the HiScore feed on the MAME screens then it way well be a GE issue
  7. Hi helpman - am i right in assuming you're going to bring it? If so i think you should say "imma bring it" honestly i sux but i am good at the banter post your score already -EDIT- that came across as arrogant not my intension, i'm just loving this whole new GE HiScore thang! It's new you know! =p I will do my best to top the top

I too never knew this! Great info and share Tempest. I'm all for this, the more we can preserve cultures, texts, whatever in all forms of media including digital the better. @Han i too intitially thought the same thing, but Adultery is correct - the "Learn more" link explains it it also explains how a lot of the "almost english but not quite" words get through, even though you yourself are not convinced you entered some characters correctly

You have chosen: "Super Barn Fan of Hurricane Mist Dissipation" - Please turn back 30 pages.

  11. No doubt about it - it's one hard snake And that is what i like to see - Han using teh force Nice score! rtkiii and i have been keeping each other alert - seems now you're in the fight! I'm also expecting a right hook from GC anytime now IT.IS.ON
  12. Open the theme in the theme editor, Click Edit> Scroller, then click wich page you wan't the feed to appear on then paste the feed url. Click Ok then File> Save. Feed url: http://gameinfo.hfc-essentials.com/hiscore/HiScore.rss Depending on the theme you may have to move the scroller into view, as a common trick to hide elements is to move them offscreen If you can't locate it on screen then choose "Layout" in the Object Browser then select "Scroller", then in the X,Y, boxes in bottom left put 0,0 then it will be in top left corner ready to drag to where you want it
  13. I prefer this one Draco, the contrast between the bright green borders and the darker back definitely makes it a lil less "busy" as you say, and a bit more defined. Nothing wrong with the original though! It's just my personal preference -EDIT- Oh, and nice incorporation of the HiScore feed!
  14. That made me chuckle i dunno why - but i agree I will beat that snake though, beat it good. ... and sorry Score: 66,590 Initials: DAZ
  15. Whenever is good for you, is good for us Han! Take your time it's all good You and GC are doing an outstanding job on all this and so i don't think it would bother anyone here if it took you two weeks to update. It wouldn't bother me anyways
  16. I have the ticker at top of MAME Select This is too cool! I know it's gonna start sounding like i worship you Adultery but... *drops to knees* Thank you thank you!
  17. I like this one That snake boss though gimme a chance! Score: 53,340 Intials: DAZ
  18. \GameEx\DATA I don't use the jukebox but if it follows the pattern of the rest of GE's cache files then they will be called something related to the jukebox with a .dbcache extension for example: jukebox.dbcache You'll have to use some initiative as i don't know exactly what they are called. Unless of course someone who uses the Jukebox can enlighten us
  19. This one is harder than i remember I've been playing Cave shmups for too long me thinks. Initials: DAZ Score: 580720
  20. Hi Yarselph, and welcome to the forum! I believe that this is a MAME setting as it defaults all artwork to be "on". It can be remedied in a few ways, so i'll give you a few options to try, from the easiest first. 1) - Try renaming your "artwork" folder in the MAME directory, it can be anything you like as long as it is different - "artwork_bak" for example. 2) - If you prefer to keep your folder names intact then there a 2 settings you can edit in mame.ini (found in your MAME directory). Do either one of these, both at the same time are not necessary: a1) - Make sure the artwork settings are all set at 0 (zero) as follows: ## CORE ARTWORK OPTIONS#artwork_crop 0use_backdrops 0use_overlays 0use_bezels 0use_cpanels 0use_marquees 0a2) - Rename the "artpath" name to a non existent directory (again anything will do, as long as it is different), for example: ## CORE SEARCH PATH OPTIONS#rompath romshashpath hashsamplepath samplesartpath artworkoff <- Change this from "artwork" to "artworkoff"ctrlrpath ctrlrinipath .;inifontpath .cheatpath cheatcrosshairpath crosshairRemember when editing your MAME.ini or any other .ini for that matter then be sure to save the changes! Either File > Save, or press CTRL+S on your keyboard. Good luck and don't hesitate to report back if you need more assistance
  21. I've just scoured my system and the "gs" folder is indeed in my Program Files directory. Try putting in Program Files (x86) and then registering the .reg file (gs-32-bit.reg) if you are manually extracting. Alternatively right-click the package and "run as admin" as it is a self extracting archive. I don't have W7 myself unfortunately so i'm making some educated guesses here
  22. Could you point me to the files you are trying to install in the download section please? I'll take a look.
  23. Also, you may want check that: Setup Wizard > MAME Settings > Advance MAME Settings (scroll down) > Bypass Disclaimer/Warnings is set to Yes. And as mentioned you will need a self-compiled version of mame for it to work, here is a great guide for beginners, or a nice reminder if you've not done it for a while.
  24. I'm not 100% sure what them files are to be honest, but if the info says to extract to GE directory then it's a safe bet to put them them in the GE root directory (with GameEx.exe, ThemeEditor.exe etc). Keeping the folder structure of course, if there is one.
  25. Now that's what i'm talkin'bout! A real shmup on the boards, and a classic too Despite my alias' i'm not terribly good, but this one i like! imma brb -EDIT- i have two in my set - a JP and USA version (and a bootleg but im ruling that out)! I'm assuming it's the USA version for now, but clarification would be appreciated as there can be differences in my experience
