Looks like you need to fix your AlsoLaunch line for ZSNES. An easier method is to just double-click on the .reg file, then click 'Yes' to import it into the registry.
-
Could you be missing some quotes around a path name containing spaces somewhere? So it's opening a folder instead of executing a program.

I just quickly tested VidRes. Here are the command lines: On GameEx start: path\to\vidres.exe /m1 /p /q Switch monitor 1 (2nd display) to primary and keep quiet. On GameEx exit: path\to\vidres.exe /m0 /p /q Switch monitor 0 (1st display) to primary and keep quiet. Registering will get rid of the nag box that pops up when VidRes is run. It has a number of other useful-looking features.
-
Yes, I think you need to purchase the whole utility to use just that feature. $40 is kinda expensive though. I just found another program called VidRes that can also switch the primary monitor. Unfortunately it is also not freeware, but registration is only ~$5 - close enough, right . I haven't had a chance to try it yet, but it looks like a good alternative.
-
I did not have those DirectX errors trying to run GameEx on a secondary display (at least not a few versions ago - I haven't tried that setting in the last couple of weeks). Initially I was going to use the "run on second monitor" setting in GameEx, but many emulators do not support multiple displays and simply open on the primary display. So eventhough GameEx opened on the secondary display properly, games usually still showed up on the primary display. I solved the problem by switching the primary display at GameEx start and exit (as described above) - then everything that GameEx executes shows up on the correct display.
-
You can try setting your plasma as the primary display in the Windows Display settings. Then set GameEx to open on the first display. If you want to automate this process get UltraMon. Then set GameEx to run path\to\ultramon.exe /p 2 on GameEx start (switch second display to be primary), and path\to\ultramon.exe /p 1 on GameEx exit (switch back to primary display). This works very well for me.

In the FAQ Tom says that drivers newer than 81.85 should work fine.

Wow, good guess! That fixed it. I'm not sure if it was the jukebox or the ambience setting that was causing the problem. Neither of them were pointing to the ping sound, but changing them fixed it. Problem Audio Settings: Jukebox mode: disabled Music/Radio on startup: no Media controls: no Jukebox playlist: *blank* Audio file: c:\emulation (no audio files here) Ambience MP3: c:\ambience.mp3 (doesn't exist) Working Audio Settings: Jukebox mode: disabled Music/Radio on startup: no Media controls: no Jukebox playlist: *blank* Audio file: *blank* Ambience MP3: *blank* Windows Media Player playlist and library are empty. I assumed that if no audio files existed at those locations that GameEx would just ignore them. I also played with the WMP playlist/library - perhaps it was corrupt or contained files that no longer existed. Somehow GameEx found its ping sound and was playing that instead. Everything is working correctly now. Thanks for your support!

Which video card are you using?

It was quite a while ago, but I think I was having some problems with GameEx crashing and there was no joystick support at that time. Mamewah was one of the only alternatives, so I gave it a try. It also had problems with it. The whole system was unreliable in general because of how I was using IR and Girder for control of some features. So the gaming system has sat in a broken state for the last 6 months. Recently I decided to get it up and running again, so had a look to see what progress GameEx had made. I was very excited when I saw all the new features and improvements in GameEx since v4.01 and I've had a lot of fun getting it up and running again. Many of the new features in GameEx have eliminated several of the things I was having to use Girder for. The feature that allows you to exit emulators with a button combination is invaluable. Mamewah requires more manual configuration through config files and isn't as "flashy" as GameEx, but it is more configurable for users that need a very customized setup. They are both excellent solutions, but GameEx is more user-friendly and has the added video and jukebox (etc) features that may come in handy in the future. Mamewah may be a better choice for a dedicated Mame cabinet, whereas I think GameEx is a better all-round emulator frontend. Thanks for spending so much time looking into this strange issue for me. I'm going to keep trying things to narrow down and find the problem. It's definitely the GameEx ping sound - so somehow something is causing that sound to play repeatedly. I have a backup image after a fresh Windows install, so I can try reverting to that and see if the problem still occurs.
-
I was initially using GameEx v4.01 several months ago. Then I switched to Mamewah for a while, and now I'm back to GameEx . I didn't have this pinging problem with v4.01, but a lot has changed since then. Unfortunately it seems that this problem is unrelated to the joystick problem I was having. What could be causing this sound eventhough Sound FX is turned off?

I uncommented those lines in the custominput.ini file and it's working great now. Thanks!

I installed GameEx on another computer and copied the config across. Button 0 still does not work on this computer. I tried closing as many processes as possible on the computer that is having the problem - didn't help. I also updated to the latest version of DirectX which also didn't make any difference. I'm using .net v1.1 - should I upgrade to v2.0? I've attached my custominput.ini file. A recent log and my current config are available here: http://www.gameex.info/forums/index.php?sh...findpost&p=6170 I'm not sure how to troubleshoot this. custominput.ini.txt

I just tried a different port, another Airflo Ex gamepad, and a Saitek Cyborg 3D joystick. All of them have the same problem with button 0 not working. All the buttons seem to work fine in the Windows Game Controller control panel. The Cyborg 3D joystick shows up in the log correctly atleast. 12:28:15.1 1/28/2006: Initialising DirectInput for Gamepad support 12:28:15.1 1/28/2006: Looking for Device: CYBORG 3D USB 12:28:15.2 1/28/2006: Device Created

The constant pinging still occurs when Sound FX is turned off.

5.46 fixed this problem for me as well. Thanks!

The new build (5.46) fixed it for me. Thanks!

Good idea. I'm not using any wireless stuff, but I unplugged my gamepad, keyboard, and mouse and then started GameEx. Same problem - every ~2.5s it pings.

I'm using a Nyko Airflo Ex (basic USB gamepad without any special drivers) to control GameEx and the games. I'm having trouble getting button 0 to work in the custominput.ini file. Button 0 should be the first button on the gamepad. However, when I set Select to button 0 in the custominput.ini, none of the buttons on the gamepad perform the select function. If I set Select to button 1, then the second button on the gamepad works correctly as the select button. It's as if button 0 was not correctly mapped to the gamepad. This isn't a huge deal as I can just use other buttons, but it would be nice to be able to use button 0. The log file also alludes to a possible problem. I chose the option for GameEx to initialize and use the Airflo gamepad in the GameEx config. However, in the log file the following lines show up: 18:26:15.6 1/26/2006: Initialising DirectInput for Gamepad support 18:26:15.7 1/26/2006: Looking for Device: AIRFLO 18:26:15.7 1/26/2006: AIRFLO Not attached. Trying First Device 18:26:15.8 1/26/2006: Using Device AIRFLO Perhaps this is part of the problem. The gamepad was attached to the system during the configuration and execution of GameEx. I have not switched USB ports or gamepads. I also noticed an inconsistency in the joystick config files. In the custominput.ini the button numbering start at zero, whereas in the advanced emulator config the button numbering starts at one (same as the windows control panel). Just something small that could be fixed. Thanks

When I'm in GameEx it constantly plays the ping sound that you normally hear when you press the select button. The sound plays approximately every 2.5 seconds. The navigation within GameEx works fine - there is just the annoying ping sound all the time. The pinging stops when a game is started and resumes when the game is exited. I'm using GameEx 5.45 and have most of the video, jukebox, etc features turned off. I have tried changing various other settings, but I haven't found what is causing the pinging yet. Any idea what's going on? Thanks

I'm having some problems with Mame and GameEx. I'm using GameEx v5.45 and standard Mame v0.103. I'm using a USB gamepad to control GameEx and Mame. Mame games start and run fine from within GameEx, but when I exit Mame using the keyboard (q) or gamepad (two buttons pressed simultaneously) Mame closes but GameEx doesn't reappear. The GameEx process is still running in the background, hideos is not running. Trying to restart GameEx doesn't work since it's already running. If I open the GameEx config and then exit, GameEx restarts all by itself - it doesn't reappear, it restarts from scratch. Occasionally exiting Mame works correctly and GameEx reappears. There doesn't seem to be anything useful in the log since GameEx doesn't crash or exit. Any idea what's going on? Thanks
