  1. The fix for the long shot was kind of odd, but computers will be computers some times don't ya know. Originally, I had only had "run as administrator" checked. I made several adjustments to the compatibility parameters of the GameEx shortcut and the GameEx executable, but there was no change on the crashing. I also tested GameEx_lite and it is crashing as well. Thanks for the suggestion though. If there are any others, please toss them my way. If all else fails, I will reinstall.
  2. OK, I got my Catalyst squared away...including doing the install without the Gaming Evolved option. Sadly, the crash is still occurring.
  3. Increasing the font size within the SetupWizard only allows the values of 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5, and 3...and it is working properly in 14.31.
  4. I was not aware of that. And it appears that my Catalyst Control Center is not working. I will resolve that and then see where things are at. However, I do not recall installing the Gaming Evolved Client by Raptr.
  5. Today while working on GameEx, I noticed that when I exit, GameEx crashes. I upgraded from 14.30 to 14.31 today. The issue was not occurring with 14.30. Since no one else has reported a similar issue, I assume it is just my install. Before I reinstall, I wanted to see if anyone else has an insight on a fix. I tested with my current GameEx config as well as a new config. It crashes on both. The log file does not appear to show any errors, but I've included it below anyway. The crash occurs regardless of how the exit is done (via ESC, the EXIT menu option, or the CLOSE button in the top right). When the crash occurs, Windows7 states "GameEx has stopped working" with the following details: Description: Stopped working Problem signature: Problem Event Name: CLR20r3 Problem Signature 01: gameex.exe Problem Signature 02: 1.0.0.0 Problem Signature 03: 55a8466a Problem Signature 04: System Problem Signature 05: 2.0.0.0 Problem Signature 06: 53a12529 Problem Signature 07: 3adf Problem Signature 08: 288 Problem Signature 09: System.ComponentModel.Win32 OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.768.3 Locale ID: 1033 Attached are my GameEx.ini and log.txt. Thanks! GameEx.ini log.txt
  6. @retroplayer: With a bit of digging, I think I got it figured out. Try the attached GameEx.ini and see if it works for you. It sounded to me like the SetupWizard was failing to load the GameEx.ini file. What I found was that under the [setupWizard] parameters, Fontsize was set as "FontSize=1,5". I changed it to "FontSize=1" and the file loaded successfully. I cannot say how that change would have happened, short of a mistake in manually editing the file. I've not known the the SetupWizard to save improper data. And by the way, the FontSize in that section relates to how large the text in the Setup Wizard will be displayed. I am pretty sure you do want 1 and not 5...cuz 5 is HUGE! GameEx.ini
  7. Great update. Well done!
  8. Hey, Great. At least you got it figured out.
  9. @Draco & null: Not to naysay you guys, but I am using Custom Menus and have more emulators set up than just MAME and when I use the GameEx_Lite.exe to start GameEx, my menus and options do not look any different..
  10. From what I can tell, GameEx is acting like Custom Menus are not enabled; but your snapshot clearly shows that they are. When I uncheck Enable Custom Menus on my setup, my GameEx looks pretty much like yours. When I enable it again, the custom menus work fine. I've looked through the Setup Wizard Options and have tried several settings with the GameExMenuEditor.exe and have not been able to figure out why you are getting that...but perhaps one of the admins will know what it is. In the meantime, it is probably a good idea to fix what is incorrect...so please make the following adjustments: - You have two objects with the Title of Exit. I suggest changing the Title of the first to something like 'Home' - The second Exit is configured as Item Type MAME. If it supposed to be an EXIT command, it should be changed to Item Type Exit I do not think that having two Items labeled as Exit is part of the problem, but I think it is best to make sure the rest of the menu setup is correct. Also, is SNES or MAME actually working through GameEX? I am not sure how GameEX handles custom menus if it determines that nothing is set up properly yet, but it may be related to what you are seeing.
  11. Hey Tom. It's not a problem. Thanks.
  12. This may be a silly question, but do you have the "Enable Custom Menus" box checked?
  13. I'm not sure if we are on the same page, so I will ask again just to clarify... I get the impression that you might be thinking I am asking for emulator or console logos, which is incorrect. I am actually looking for GameEx logos in the newer style, like this: If there are none, I can certainly make my own approximation. I would just need to find the appropriate font file.
  14. It's been about two weeks since I posted this, so just checking back. Any direction on where these could be found would be appreciated. Thanks.
  15. Well, no. I did not realize that, but I very much appreciate it!
  16. I was also wondering about discounted prices for previous GameEx customers. I bought GameEx in 2007 for $15.00 or $20.00 after using the free version for a few months. I could have continued using the free version for a long time as I did not care about the nag screen; but I felt it was so good that it was worth paying the money to support it. Even now, I still think it is a great front end! The current price for Lifetime GameEx with Lifetime online pass is £29.00 (or $46.00 American), which by comparison feels high. After all, I already have a great front end now, AND since I have not been able to get my hands on Evolution to try out, I don't know if it's worth the $46.00 (or more since you say the price will probably go up). Perhaps some more demo videos would help.
  17. Thanks Tom. It was the "Interface" parameter as you pointed out. Changing it from "Simple" to "Normal" resolved it.
  18. While working on my GameEx theme and config today, I came to notice that my Menu has gone missing. And by 'Menu', I am referring to the Here is what I did/figured out thus far: The current theme is a v4 theme of my own making. The Menu is missing from the Home list as well as all the emulator pages.I use the GameExMenuEditor.exe to make a custom listing with home as the root and all items under Home.If I navigate to the top of the game list and try to move further up, the selection stays on the top-most game (ie it does not advance up into an invisible menu). In looking at the theme via the Theme Editor, the Menu field is present on Layout page as well as each of the Emulator pages.I tried changing the theme to a previous iteration of my theme as well as several other v2 and v4 themes, but the Menu did not show up in the other themes or return in my theme (which makes me think there is a parameter in the Setup Wizard that I must have changed).I looked through the Setup Wizard, but could not find a setting related to the hiding the Menu.I am currently running GameEx 14.11Previous to the 14.10 to 14.11 update, the Menu was presentAfter the update to 14.11, I cannot recall if the Menu was present or notI suppose this could be related to this topic as well: http://www.gameex.info/forums/topic/16396-my-jukebox-has-lost-its-menus/ If anyone has any suggestions, I would appreciate it. My GameEx.ini is attached for reference. GameEx.ini
  19. Is there a place where I can download GameEx logos of various sizes for use in themes? I am specifically looking for logos in the style of the GameEx Forum logo (with transparencies of course).
  20. Glad I could help.
  21. Howdy Uber, Map files are actually quite easy to use and create. You are correct in that they can be used to display a cleaner game name, but one of the other features of using MAP files is that only those entries in the MAP file will be displayed in your game list. I actually use MAP files for all of my emulators so that I can control the games that are listed as well as use nicely formatted titles. If I understand how you want to set up your favorites, you are going to set up each emulator a second time and that second iteration of each is going to be for the favorites. If that is correct, when you set up an emulator a second time, make the settings (except perhaps the emulator name, NES Favorites?) exactly the same...except that you will assign a MAP file. How do you create MAP Files? Use a text editor to create a .txt file. Then, add a line for each game like this: rom name "display name" For example: 1943 - The Battle of Midway (U) [!].nes "1943 - The Battle of Midway" 720 (U) [!].nes "720 Degrees" 8 Eyes (U) [!].nes "8 Eyes" When you are done, save the file as a .txt file using whatever name you like. You can save the file where ever you want. You will then need to browse to that file and change the extension from .txt to .map. Lastly, assign the path to the file in the Emulator setup. That's it. For that emulator, only those entries will be listed. There is a little program called Map File Maker that you can use to make MAP files and it's ok. I ended up using Excel and Notepad++ to create all my map files. Since you are only dong a favorites list for each emulator, the number of entries will probably be pretty low for each, so I would think that doing it manually should not be too bad.
  22. Yes, I have been using the custom backgrounds ever since I started dabbling in themes. What I have been doing is creating different backgrounds for each emulator and using a specific color palate that I feel represents each one (like blue for Sega Genesis, Red for NES, purple for Gamecube, etc). Once I started completing some of the backgrounds, I thought to myself "How snazzy would it be if those custom backgrounds were also displayed while browsing the emulator choices in the Home List? Besides giving some additional pizzazz to the Home List, the transition from the Home List to each individual emulator would also be a lot more seamless; but sadly, it does not look like what I am looking for is possible. It's OK. Evolution is probably not too far away and it will obviously have some very nice new theme possibilities. One of the reasons I am even continuing to work on my GameEx Theme is that I am pretty sure I will want to use the same assets once Evolution is released.
  23. @DazzleHP - Thanks. I am already using the custom layouts for each emulator. This is what made me come up with the idea. I thought that since Image1 and Image2 could be loaded on a game by game basis while browsing an emulator that there might be a small chance that a similar thing might be supported when browsing the home menu. However, I do not think that it would be much more difficult to implement since I would not think that every snapshot and title shot in a games list is loaded by GameEx when an emulator list is entered. I think that what I am asking just has not been something Tom has added. Maybe Evolution... @tthurman - Thanks to you too. I checked out Draco's Smoked Glass and it does not do what I was looking for.
  24. Is there is an option in the GameEx properties or the Theme Editor where you could set it up so that the Home background changes while navigating the Home List. For instance, lets say my Home List is the following: MAMESega GenesisNESSuper NintendoWhen my selection is on MAME, a MAME background is used for the Home screen. Then, If I arrow down to Sega Genesis, the background changes to a Sega Genesis background; and if I arrow down once more time, the background changes to a NES background; and so on and so on... I tried some creative editing by stretching Image 1 (the Platform Logo) across the entirety of the screen so that it would cover the background as an overlay, but as you arrow down through the list there is a 1 second pause before Image 1 is displayed that causes the default background to not be covered up by Image 1. I am working with a v4 theme setup (if it matters). I am also using the GameExMenuEditor to set up the menu (if that matters too). Thanks.
